I was sitting at the table one day with my son. We were reviewing scores from standardized test he had taken in school. In addition to the scores, there was a page that listed some possible occupations that he may be well suited for. His strong math scores gave him many engineering career suggestions. He was excited to see what the engineering field was all about. As we started investigating some of the engineering fields, I kept telling him "I do that at home." At first I was joking with him but the more I thought about it, the more I realized, I was doing the work of an engineer.
Here is the definition of a few engineering fields:

Environmental engineering	The application of science and engineering principles to improve the natural environment (air, water, and/or land resources), to provide healthy water, air, and land for human habitation (house or home) and for other organisms, and to remediate polluted sites. Transportation engineering	The application of technology and scientific principles to the planning, functional design, operation and management of facilities for any mode of transportation in order to provide for the safe, rapid, comfortable, convenient, economical, and environmentally compatible movement of people and goods	Soccer practice, Grocery Shopping
Acoustical engineering	Concerns the manipulation and control of vibration, especially vibration isolation and the reduction of unwanted sounds.	Shhh! inside Voice!
Domestic Engineer	All of the Above plus accountant, counselor, referee, chef, fashion coordinator, secretary, party planner, nutritionist, first aid medical responder, teacher, etc.

As a Domestic Engineer, I am willing to help other families as a consultant. Just as cities use civil engineers and builders use architectural engineers, I am offering my domestic engineering services to help homes run smoother and more efficiently.
