Getting the House Clean

Unless you are a TV family on a sitcom or a neurotic person who has many
hours to devote to tidiness, a spotless house is not a viable daily
living scenario. A good clean house however is certainly
obtainable. Here are some tips for getting the house clean in a
organized manner: Pick a day Pick one day of the week and try to clean on that day every week. First, it gets you prepared mentally every week that on this day the house gets cleaned. Secondly, it gets the rest of the family prepared every week to put there things away themselves or hunt for them later when you put them where you think they should go and also to expect a light quick meal because you have been cleaning all day. Finally, you can plan your week better. When you don't have a cleaning schedule and you are asked to do something, the reply is usually: "Yea, I can do that, I was just going to clean but I will do that later." Get distracted like that a few times and before you realize it, your house has gone weeks without being cleaned. Set a day aside every week and then you can reply: "Sorry, I am busy that day for a few hours every week." Don't let the Washer be Idle Start a load of laundry as you start cleaning. It is easy to check the laundry while you are moving around and cleaning. With very little effort on your house cleaning day, you could lighten the load on laundry day. Organize Your Supplies Start by getting you supplies ready. Get them all out at one time. You can even put them in a bucket or a little plastic tote. The idea is to save time running back and forth between rooms and storage closets getting supplies. Bring your tote and vacuum into a room, get out the supplies you need from the tote. put them back when finished, vacuum and then off to the next room. Plan Your Path Know what room you are going to start with and move with the flow of the house or apartment. Don't bounce around your living space like a Mexican jumping bean. Move with the layout of the space and clean accordingly. This saves you time, energy and wear and tear on your vacuum plug from having to be moved as often. Start at the Top Clean from top down to the bottom off each room. Do high dusting first. Start at the lights then the pictures, window seals , tables, TV and so on. The final thing should be sweeping the floors. Cleaning is not a Spectator Sport! If you have young kids, instead of finding a cartoon or movie to keep them occupied, give them a rag and have them help. It gives them something worthwhile to do. It makes them feel important and proud of their accomplishments and it also teaches them how to clean. Older children can also help but it may take some more persuading. This will also help them keep the house cleaner during the rest of the week. A Preference of Mine I like to keep bathrooms last. I use different cleaners for the bathroom and I want to spend a little extra time cleaning in there. I also know that when the bathrooms are done, everything is done. Finally, Relax Nothing feels better than relaxing after a hard days work in a nice clean home!!!!!! |
